Sevastopol Classic Tour: Chersonesus and Panorama Museum, City Tour
Take this Sevastopol classic day tour to discover the best attractions of the city, popular among the tourists for many years. On this 7-hour bus tour you will visit ancient Chersonesus, an Orthodox sacral place from where Christianity spread over Kievan Rus. Ancient Greek colony, UNESCO World Heritage Chersonesus is picturesque Greek ruins situated at the edge of the sea. Then you head to Historic Boulevard, a green park in the centre of Sevastopol, one of the former bastions of the Crimean war where you visit Panorama museum, to witness a monumental circular three-dimension picture of the Crimean War battle. First stop is Chersonesus National Reserve, ancient Greek colony in the Crimea and one of the largest archaeological excavation spots on the Black Sea. You will explore fascinating ruins of Chersonesus, a former mighty democratic city-state. One of the symbols of Ukraine, today it is turned into the National Preserve. Visit beautiful St. Vladimir’s Cathedral built in 19th century close to the baptizing spot of Prince Vladimir the Great. Take pictures next to the fabulous Foggy Bell, a famous war booty, and listen to its story. Tour also includes visiting of a unique Greek amphitheatre with 1,500 seat arena, ruins of temples, a citadel with defensive walls, necropolis, a mint of Chersonesus, buildings and streets of the ancient city.
Continue to the Historical Boulevard and Panorama museum. On the tour you visit a place where 4th bastion was located during the Crimean War. The guide narrates details of this war. You will get acquainted with military tactics of Russians including underground mine war, artillery techniques, defensive construction features. You will see the genuine cannons of the Crimean War, cannon yards and monuments located within the territory of the former 4th bastion. The most exciting part of the tour is visiting the famous battle-art masterpiece of the Panorama Museum, a 360-degree three-dimension picture of the battle of Malakhov which took place in Sevastopol, June 18, 1855.
The last part of the tour will lead you back to the centre of Sevastopol. You will get acquainted with the most notable historical monuments of the city. With plenty of photo stops and nice viewing points this tour is comprehensive but not strenuous.
To end the tour we can take you back to the hotel or you can choose to join an optional Motor-Boat Trip, to visit Aquarium Museum, or the Museum of the Black Sea Fleet, or enjoy meal in one of the numerous open-air café of the seafront.
